A tall, densely tufted perennial grass which is native to India. The essential oil is obtained via steam distillation from the cleaned and washed rootlets which are dried, cut and chopped.
Therapeutic benefits:
- Musculoskeletal system : a mild rubefacient and may be used for arthritis, rheumatism and muscular pain.
- Nervous system : relaxing and is beneficial for stress, anxiety, insomnia and depression. It is also recommended for physical, mental and emotional burnout which results from total exhaustion.
- Reproductive system : reputed to regulate hormonal secretions of oestrogen and progesterone. An ideal oil to be used during menopause, where hormones need supplementing and due to its grounding and cooling effects, it will help to reduce symptoms of hot flushes. It is recommended for PMS caused by oestrogen deficiency.
- Skin care : strengthen the body's connective tissue, making it beneficial for weak, loose or simply fatigued skin.
How to use:
For massage : Mix 3 to 4 drops of essential oils with 3 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For bath : Drip about 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into bathtub filled with warm water and add 2 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For vaporisation : Add 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into a tea-light candle burner or electric burner. For tea-light candle burner, do add water.
