A small evergreen shrub with thick aromatic, linear leaves. The essential oil is obtained via steam distillation of the leaves, flowers and twigs.
Therapeutic benefits:
- Cardiovascular system : reputed to benefit cardiac fatigue, palpitations, low blood pressure and circulatory problems of the extremities.
- Digestive system : recommended as a tonic for the liver and gallbladder. May be used for gallbladder infections, biliary colic and gallstones.
- Musculoskeletal system : a good analgesic and can be used for treating rheumatism, arthritis, stiff and tired and overworked muscles.
- Nervous system : well known for its stimulating effect on the central nervous system (CNS). Reputed to be a brain stimulant and is used for poor concentration and nervous debility.
- Respiratory system : recommended for catarrhal conditions and respiratory ailments such as bronchitis, asthma and sinusitis.
- Skin care : used in hair care products as it is reputed to stimulate hair growth and prevent premature baldness. It is also used for prevention of dandruff.
How to use:
For massage : Mix 3 to 4 drops of essential oils with 3 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For bath : Drip about 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into bathtub filled with warm water and add 2 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For vaporisation : Add 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into a tea-light candle burner or electric burner. For tea-light candle burner, do add water.
Caution : Do not use during pregnancy and by individuals who are suffering or having history of epilepsy or high blood pressure.
