A tender, bushy perennial herb with woolly hairy leaves. Also known as 'joy of the mountains'. The essential oil is obtained via steam distillation of the dried leaves and flowering tops.
Therapeutic benefits:
- Circulatory system: useful for treating chilblains and it helps to disperse bruises. Alleviate high blood pressure.
- Digestive system: stimulates and strengthens intestinal peristalsis, making it beneficial to relieve constipation, colic, flatulence and spasmodic indigestion.
- Musculoskeletal system: useful for muscular spasms, rheumatic pains, sprains and strains.
- Nervous system: strengthen and relax the nerves. It is recommended for anxiety, insomnia.
- Respiratory system: due to its antibacterial and antispasmodic properties, it is effective for whooping cough and as a chest rub or inhalation of flus and colds.
- Reproductive system: ease menstrual cramps. Use in conjunction with clary sage for females who are experiencing uterine and nerve spasms during their period.
- Anaphrodisiac: reputed to diminish the desire for sexual contact.
How to use:
For massage : Mix 3 to 4 drops of essential oils with 3 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For bath : Drip about 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into bathtub filled with warm water and add 2 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For vaporisation : Add 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into a tea-light candle burner or electric burner. For tea-light candle burner, do add water.
