The lemon tree bears fruits all year round. The fruits appear with a deep green colour and ripening to a bright yellow. The essential oil is obtained via cold expression of the peel of the fruits.
Therapeutic benefits:
- Circulatory system : an excellent tonic for the circulatory system, reducing blood viscosity and helping to break up plague deposits in the arteries, reducing cholesterol. It is an excellent remedy for tonifying the blood vessels and maybe used for varicose veins, broken capillaries, haemorrhoids and nosebleeds.
- Immune system : due to its antimicrobial properties, it is very useful for colds, flu, bronchitis and asthma. It has immune stimulating properties.
- Lymphatic system : a mild detoxifier and is very useful for toxaemia and cellulite.
- Nervous system : uplifting and can overcome mental fatigue. Helps clear the mind and is reputed to aid in decision making and increase in mental concentration. It was shown in studies in Japan that when dispersed in the room, it reduced typing error by 54%.
- Skin care : astringent, counteracting over production of sebum and especially useful for teenage problem skins. Its antibacterial properties make it suitable for acne and boils.
How to use:
For massage : Mix 3 to 4 drops of essential oils with 3 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For bath : Drip about 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into bathtub filled with warm water and add 2 tablespoonful of carrier oil.
For vaporisation : Add 6 to 8 drops of essential oils into a tea-light candle burner or electric burner. For tea-light candle burner, do add water.
Caution : Do not use on skin prior to exposure to sun as it is phototoxic.
